How to Find a Holiday Job

It is that time of year again, where everyone is looking to earn that extra holiday cash. However, due to the slumping economy many companies are looking to hire less seasonal employees than in years past. So, how do you find a holiday job? Follow the tips and hints below to find that perfect seasonal job to earn you that extra income!

1. Usually it is the retail industry that hires the most seasonal employees. Retailers typically begin their hiring process in October in order to have their new employees trained and ready for the busy holiday season, which begins around Thanksgiving. Check for openings at local stores and or online. But to be save, apply both in person and online. You never know, you may be hired on the spot! Bonus: You may even be eligible for an employee discount for the retailer your working for.

2. No matter where or how you find a holiday job, be open to a flexible work schedule. Being able to work evenings and weekends would show your employer you are eager to earn that extra income no matter what the work schedule may be.

3. Check for seasonal employment opportunities at your local delivery companies as well. DHL, FedEx, UPS and your local post office hires seasonal help because of the overwhelming volume they receive during the holiday season. Normally, package handlers and delivery persons are needed during this time of year. Again, if you can be flexible with your schedule you may even rack up extra work hours during the night shifts.

4. Many people during the holiday season normally want more of one certain thing, and that is time! Most people enjoy spending their time with family and friends, rather than doing all their typical and mundane tasks that come with the holiday season. Here is how you could capitalize on giving them that time and another way on how you can find that holiday job. For example, if you have a knack for decorating and wrapping gifts, take that task off someone's hands and charge for it. Also, look into offering pet sitting services. Most people are on the road quite frequently and may need someone to care for their pets. Finally, offer an errand service in your area. You could save someone a lot of time by picking up their dry cleaning, groceries, etc. Try placing an ad for these services and then negotiate a rate with your clients.

5. A great resource on how to find a holiday job is at a website named snagajob.com. Here one can view companies that are hiring in their area. Most of the jobs are hourly and part-time, perfect for those looking for that seasonal employment.

As you can see there are multiple ways to find that holiday job. Just remember two things: start looking now for that seasonal job and flexible with your work schedule. Good luck!
