The keyword tool provided by Google allows you to enter a keyword into its search and it will give you several long-tail (3 or more words) keywords that have been searched for in the past 30 days. This tool will also give you related terms, how many people searched for the terms, how popular the keyword is, and how much merchants are paying to rank for the keyword.
If you are starting out with no product and want to start as an affiliate for some of the more popular products on the Internet, you can click on “Search Based Keyword Tool” and then click on “See Top Keywords Across All Categories” at the bottom. You will see several categories on the left hand side of the page. Click on a category and you will find a report of the monthly searches, the level of competition and the suggested adwords bid. Shoot for at least 1,000 searches per month.
When you’ve decided which keyword phrase of three or more words you want to target, go to WhoIs to determine if your keyword phrase is available. It is suggested that you only use a “dotcom” or “dotorg” domain. Dotcom is saturated with domains, but there are still some available because many dotcom domains expire every day. It is best that you don’t try to use hyphens or periods between words as most people will forget to use them.
