People can not turn down the opportunity to find a good deal. Even in excellent times with a rock solid economy this will always hold true. One often sought after method is finding a good auto auction. However many people do not know how to find a local car auction.

There are many methods that can be employed. However, a step by step basis is more likely to aid you as you attempt to learn how to find a local car auction.

STEP ONE:

Determine whether you are going to be looking for a public auction, a dealer only auction, or a hybrid of both. A public auction is for anyone that can show up, but dealers aren't always welcome. A dealer auction is one that only licensed car dealers are allowed to attend. The deals at such events are generally much better than a standard public auction. The hybrid auction is another type of public auction but in this one anyone can bid, not just the unlicensed public.

STEP TWO:

The searching phase can take many forms. There are a wide variety of methods that car auctions may be listen. Some of the most popular methods are newspaper listings, phone book advertisement listings, online auction finders.

Search your local news papers. Sometimes you can find a car auction in the classifieds section or among the advertisements that are spread out within the periodical. Newspapers have a long history of helping people locate items they are seeking and auto auctions are generally in there. The best place to look in a newspaper is in the automobile classifieds section.

Phone book listings are usually found in the yellow pages. Look up auto auction, and you will usually find several. Be certain to call them once you do! You must know who is allowed to bid. For those who wish to sell at an auto auction it generally doesn't matter what type they are. They will accept cars from anyone, though, the auction will almost always charge a bid fee.

Online auction finders can be an incredible resource. The best ones will usually be able to find you a few dozen to a few hundred auctions in your state. Many of these even allow you to search within a pre-set distance from your zipcode. As with anything online, however, be wary of scams. Google your online auction finders first to determine their nature and respect among the car finding community.

STEP THREE:

Once you have spoken to or at least located a car auction, your next task is to keep in touch with them. Most of these have call lists, but even better is a mailing list. The mailing list is usually postal mail, but many offer e-mail listing as well. If you wish to stay in the game, then being on these lists is vital. They will allow you to know information about auction dates and times.

STEP FOUR:

This is the most literal step. How to find a local car auction. All the mailing lists and car auction knowledge in the world will not help you unless you can determine HOW to arrive there. Map quest can help. Other methods are the purchase of a street map, a request for directions from the auction owner, or you can ask at the post office.

If you have a GPS system this can help as well, as long as the auction site is in a good location.
